Home remedies for dry skin

The problem of dry skin is normally inevitable mainly in winter season no matter how expensive moisturizers one may use. The moisturizers do not guarantee an all time effectiveness, making the problem of dry skin common. During cold seasons, dry skin is normal but many people suffer from the problem as a result of many reasons. These reasons can be hereditary, air conditioning, bathing with hot water, atopic dermatitis, and thyroid disorders among others.  The symptoms of dry skin are flaky skin, itching, red patches and rough skin. Instead of depending on chemical-based cosmetics, it is better to try home remedies that are effective in treating dry skin. These natural remedies include;

Olive or Castor oil


A mixture of olive and castor oil are proven to be effective to bring a smooth and soft texture to the skin.  Apply the mixture in all dry parts of the skin including the face. It is then followed by placing a clean washcloth immersed in hot water in the parts of the body where the oil mixture was applied. Repeat this at least 3 to 4 times till the skin feels smoothens soft.


Honey
Rub some honey all over the skin surface including the face and wait for ten minutes before taking a cold shower. The result will be a soft glowing skin that is smooth and lovely.

Avocado mask
Avocado is an effective home remedy as it is known to be rich in natural oil that can make the skin smooth and soft all day long. Make a puree out of a ripe avocado fruit and mix with two teaspoons of curd and honey. Apply the mask (a mixture of the three ingredients) on any dry part of the body and wash after ten minutes with warm water.


Mango
Mash a fully ripe mango fruit in a container and mix with sugar in the same ratio. The mixture is used to exfoliate the skin as a pre-mask.  The rest of the mashed mango is mixed with organ oil and applied on the face. Rinse off the face after 20 minutes and see how a mango is soothing and softening the skin.


Chocolate mask
A chocolate mask made by mixing cocoa, mashed avocado and honey is known to give the skin a chocolaty texture. Use this mixture in the face and the whole body to have soft glowing skin. The mask helps in reducing marks and blemishes on the skin leaving it moistened.

Home skin treatment can be very beneficial to you in a number of ways; the treatments can save on money spent to purchase expensive chemical products or to pay professionals, can save time and are mostly natural so they have no side effects on the skin.

Oatmeal and onion puree
This method of home skin treatment uses the common kitchen items, onions and oatmeal to make a mask for facial; oatmeal clears the pores on the skin that may be clogged with dirt and bacteria while onions serve as the anti-inflammatory that helps heal acne scars. To make the puree for home skin treatment, boil 3 tablespoons of oatmeal with distilled water then when ready, add one full onion blended into a smooth paste to the oatmeal and apply as mask all over the face while taking care not to let it enter the eyes. Let the mask stay on the face for some time then wash off with warm water and pat dry.

Lemon, honey, egg and yogurt solution
The natural compounds found in lemon and yogurt helps in clearing the marks left by acne on the skin while the egg white contains proteins that improve the skin’s natural defense. Honey is a natural antibacterial that kills bacteria and soothes the skin. This recipe is one of the most complete home skin treatment solutions; it is made by mixing 2 tablespoons of honey, 4 tablespoons of fresh or bottled lemon juice and 3 tablespoons of yogurt with one egg white, then whisking till the mixture turns into a thick paste. The paste is applied evenly all over the face then let to set for about 15 minutes before gently washing off with warm water. It is necessary to clean the face and dry it before applying the home skin treatment solution.
Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has both antibacterial and antiseptic compounds that help destroy the bacteria that cause acne and makes it a perfect home skin treatment solution. The cider also contains malic acid that helps balance the pH of the skin. To use this home skin treatment method, mix 1 tablespoon of the vinegar with 3 tablespoons of water to form a solution. Clean your face and dry it then soak a ball of cotton in the home skin treatment solution and apply all over the face and let set for 10 minutes and finally rinse with warm water.
