Home remedies for dry skin

The problem of dry skin is normally inevitable mainly in winter season no matter how expensive moisturizers one may use. The moisturizers do not guarantee an all time effectiveness, making the problem of dry skin common. During cold seasons, dry skin is normal but many people suffer from the problem as a result of many reasons. These reasons can be hereditary, air conditioning, bathing with hot water, atopic dermatitis, and thyroid disorders among others.  The symptoms of dry skin are flaky skin, itching, red patches and rough skin. Instead of depending on chemical-based cosmetics, it is better to try home remedies that are effective in treating dry skin. These natural remedies include;

Olive or Castor oil


A mixture of olive and castor oil are proven to be effective to bring a smooth and soft texture to the skin.  Apply the mixture in all dry parts of the skin including the face. It is then followed by placing a clean washcloth immersed in hot water in the parts of the body where the oil mixture was applied. Repeat this at least 3 to 4 times till the skin feels smoothens soft.


Honey
Rub some honey all over the skin surface including the face and wait for ten minutes before taking a cold shower. The result will be a soft glowing skin that is smooth and lovely.

Avocado mask
Avocado is an effective home remedy as it is known to be rich in natural oil that can make the skin smooth and soft all day long. Make a puree out of a ripe avocado fruit and mix with two teaspoons of curd and honey. Apply the mask (a mixture of the three ingredients) on any dry part of the body and wash after ten minutes with warm water.


Mango
Mash a fully ripe mango fruit in a container and mix with sugar in the same ratio. The mixture is used to exfoliate the skin as a pre-mask.  The rest of the mashed mango is mixed with organ oil and applied on the face. Rinse off the face after 20 minutes and see how a mango is soothing and softening the skin.


Chocolate mask
A chocolate mask made by mixing cocoa, mashed avocado and honey is known to give the skin a chocolaty texture. Use this mixture in the face and the whole body to have soft glowing skin. The mask helps in reducing marks and blemishes on the skin leaving it moistened.


Easy to use home dry skin remedies

The various types of dry skin remedies are mainly used to hydrate the skin besides providing many other benefits. Dry skin is a common skin condition that comes about due to lack of sufficient water in the epidermis, the top most layer of the skin. The problem generally affects people of all ages but is more prevalent with the elderly whose skins have lost most of the natural oils and lubrication.
The common causes of dry skin include using of harsh soap to wash the skin, overusing sanitizers on the skin, cold temperatures and low humidity.
Below are some of the home dry skin remedies;

Baking soda
Baking soda is one of the very useful dry skin remedies because its properties make it very ideal for stopping itching of the skin. To use the remedy, you can sponge bath using 4 tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in a liter of water or add one cup of baking soda to water in a bathtub and soak in it for half an hour then air dry yourself.

Olive oil
Olive oil has many uses and is one of the most widely used dry skin remedies in many moisturizers. The oil contains antioxidants that heal inflamed or dry skin and can also repair wrinkles on the skin as well as diminish sun spots. To use the remedy, soak cotton ball in the olive oil and apply on the dry areas of the skin. Allow the oil to stay on the skin for a few minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Honey
Honey is one of the most widely used dry skin remedies and is known for its antibacterial properties. It is also sticky and can remove dirt or grime and bacteria that fill the pores on the skin. It moisturizes and greatly softens the skin if regularly used. One can apply the honey directly onto the skin then massage gently so that it seeps into the pores of the skin. Let it stay on the skin for about 3 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Apple cider vinegar

Besides it application in almost all the home remedies, apple cider vinegar still comes in as one of the dry skin remedies; this is because the compounds in the vinegar such as malic acid is very essential in revitalizing damaged skin.  You can simply use a cotton ball to apply a small amount of vinegar on the dry or itchy part of the skin or add 3 cups of the vinegar to the bath water and soak in it for about half an hour as one of the dry skin remedies.
