Home remedies for dealing with dandruff

Dandruff is just the dead skin cells on the scalp that sheds from time to time. It is a common scalp disorder mostly to teenagers. It is found to be the one of the major problems causing low self-esteem. Many of the commercial remedies used have some side effects that are dangerous to the skin in the scalp. Dandruff is caused by various reasons that include hormones, oily and irritating skin, stress, changing hair care products, improper care of the head, lack of vitamins, and using too much hair spray or hair gel among others.

The symptoms include the scaly scalp, dry white flakes on the shoulder, and itching on the scalp. In helping to manage the condition, the following natural home remedies can be used. They are cheap and easy to rich in addition to having no side effects as compared to the commercial remedies.


Yogurt
Yogurt is not only effective option to conditioning the scalp and the hair but also a wonderful natural remedy to eliminate severe dandruff. Apply plain yogurt to the scalp and rinse off with water after 20 minutes. Clean the scalp with a little shampoo and see the amazing result it brings.

Oil Therapy
Mild oil or baby oil can be used in small quantity since too much of the oil can burn the scalp and fingers. Take some oil in your fingers and massage gently it into the scalp using your palm. The gentle massage prevents the hair from falling. Soak a larger towel in warm water enough to cover the hair and the scalp. Cover the hair with the towel as you squeeze the excess water for around 20 minutes. Remove the towel and leave the hair overnight then shampoo in the morning.

Coconut oil massage
Massage your scalp using some heated coconut oil and leave it overnight before you rinse with shampoo the next morning. Washing the hair once may not be effective in removing the oil. The hair should be washed 2 to 3 times before you realize the oil moisturizes the hair in the scalp.

Listerine
Besides being a mouth wash product, Listerine as proven to be effective in getting rid of hair dandruff. It contains menthol and methyl salicylate that provides relief to itching of the scalp hair.

Aspirin
Make a fine powder of out of two aspirin tablets by crushing them and mix in the regular shampoo then wash with warm water after few minutes.


Easy to use home dandruff remedies

There are several dandruff remedies that one can use at home to get rid of the problem. Dandruff is simply the shedding of the dead skin cells from the scalp. There are many causes of dandruff such as sensitivity to yeast, dry skin, dermatitis, certain illnesses and hyper reaction to certain skin or hair products.
Some of the common home dandruff remedies include the following;

Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and one of the popular dandruff remedies. A few drops of the oil can be added to regular shampoo when cleaning the hair, or 2 teaspoons added to a cupful of warm water can be used to spray the scalp after shampooing.

Thyme
Four tablespoons of dried thyme can be boiled in two cups of water then strained and let to cool before massaging on the scalp as one of the dandruff remedies. Thyme contains both antifungal and antiseptic components that help eradicate the dandruff.

Lime
A teaspoon of fresh lime can be added to the water while rinsing the head as one of the dandruff remedies. The compounds found in lime are antibacterial and can greatly help in getting rid of dandruff.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera juice or gel applied to the head a few minutes before showering can be one of the most effective dandruff remedies; this is because Aloe Vera has antifungal and antibacterial components.

Vinegar
White vinegar contains acetic acid which creates an environment that’s not conducive for bacteria or fungus to live and multiply. One measure of the white vinegar is mixed with triple the measure of water and used to wash the head. Once washed, you can rinse the hair with normal water. This treatment is one of the most effective in getting rid of dandruff that may have been persistent before.

Listerine
Even though designed for cleaning the mouth, the compounds in Listerine make it ideal for use as one of the home dandruff remedies. One can use Listerine directly to wash the head then letting it stay on the head for about 15 minutes, and finally rinsing off with normal water or simply mixing 2 measures of Listerine with 1 measure of water then spraying the solution on the hair and leaving it on for about half an hour before rinsing off with clean water.

Fenugreek treatment

Fenugreek is known for its antifungal properties that make it one of the common dandruff remedies; to use fenugreek, simply soak the seeds overnight in water to soften up then grind them the following day into a fine paste. The paste is applied on the scalp and left for a few hours before rinsing off with water. If used regularly, the technique can be among the most effective dandruff remedies.
