There are many coughing remedies meant
to soothe and cure persistent coughs. Generally, a cough can be caused by cold
air, infections by micro-organisms and respiratory disorders such as the flu
and common cold. A cough can either be dry in which case there is no
expectorant while wet coughs produce thick phlegm. All in all, coughs can be
annoying and can be very uncomfortable especially if the cough persists for a
longer time.
Below are some coughing remedies that have
been mostly used by patients and are known to be effective;

is one of the most effective natural coughing remedies available. One can grind
a few cloves and boil them for a few minutes and drink the mixture. The garlic
cloves can be chewed or put in either chicken soup or other foods but should
not be cooked with food if intended to be used as one of the coughing remedies
Honey
Honey is one of the many coughing
remedies that have been used since the ancient times. It is known for promotion
of the flow of mucus thus clearing of coughs. To achieve the best results, one
is should add one tablespoon of honey to one cup of hot water and stir then drink.
If desired, one can add freshly squeezed Lemmon juice to the solution.
Steam therapy
Many coughing remedies act as
expectorants. This also applies to steam inhalation which helps moisturize the
dry and irritated passageways that cause the coughs and gets rid of mucus. One
only needs to fill a bowl with hot water then add a drop or two of eucalyptus
essential oil to the water and gently lower the head to inhale the steam. Menthol
balms can also be used in place of the eucalyptus.
Black pepper tea
In addition to being a spice that
brings out the flavor of food, black pepper is another of many coughing
remedies and is effective for wet coughs. To get maximum results, one should
mix 1 teaspoon of ground pepper with 2 tablespoons of honey in a cup of very
hot water and allowed to steep for 15 minutes then drink. The pepper improves
blood circulation while honey acts as a mild antibiotic.
Stay
hydrated
It
is very important to drink lots of water and fluids when one is coughing. Taking
hot drinks like tea with lemon can soothe the throats and ease coughing. Most
coughing remedies work at keeping the mucous membranes moist and as
