Dermatitis is a general term that is used to describe
various inflammations of the skin. Most of the conditions are characterized by
swelling, redness, soreness and at times appearance of blisters on the skin.
Even though common, dermatitis is not a life threatening condition and a not
contagious.
There are three types of dermatitis and each has different symptoms;
atopic dermatitis is characterized by the areas where it occurs which are areas
where the skin stretches a lot such as the elbows, the front part of the neck
and behind the knees. The rashes can normally leak when touched or crust upon
contact.
Contact dermatitis comes about as a result of contact with
substances that irritate the skin, for instance, contact with poison ivy. The rash
may have a burning, itching or a stinging feeling. In some cases, blisters
develop.
Seborrheic dermatitis is characterized by red rashes and
yellowish scales known to be oily. It mainly forms around the ears, nose and on
the scalp.
There are many different home remedies that can be used to
treat the condition; some of the common examples include the following items;
Almond leaves
When using almonds to treat dermatitis, crush some leaves in
water, preferably using mortar and then apply onto the affected skin then allow
the herb to stay on the skin for a few minutes then rinse with water. You can
apply a moisturizer on the skin afterwards.
Apple cider vinegar
Because of its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, the
vinegar is used to treat dermatitis by simply applying the vinegar on the skin
using a cotton ball. You can allow the vinegar to stay on the skin for about 10
minutes then wipe off with a damp cloth, preferably cotton fabric.
Honey
Honey is also known for its natural anti-inflammatory and
antibacterial properties. To use honey on dermatitis, take some honey and mix
with little water to dilute it then apply on the affected skin. When repeatedly
used, it can give amazing results.
Oatmeal
Oat meal has several properties that make it ideal for
treating many skin conditions. It stops irritation and clears the rashes on the
skin. To use it, simply add one cupful of powdered oatmeal to bath water and
soak in the water for about 20 minutes. When done daily, the remedy will keep
the skin clean and completely get rid of dermatitis.
Coconut oil
Coconut oil is ideal for treating dermatitis and dry skin.
Simply take some warm oil apply gently onto the skin when going to bed to treat
dermatitis.
