Home remedies for stretch marks

A stretch mark is an off-colored strip or streak formed on the skin due to weight changes or swift stretching of the skin. The stretch marks usually appear in the abdomen due to obesity or pregnancy. They are formed as a result of hormonal changes related to puberty, pregnancy, or hormone replacement therapy. They are commonly seen on the thighs, lower backs, breasts, hips, buttocks, arms and the waist. 


The above causes result in continuous expansion and contraction of the skin. This causes the stretch marks to develop on the on the outer layer or middle layer of the skin. The stretch of the skin weakens collagen tearing up the elastic fibers damaging and interrupting the normal production cycles. It hence results in the formation of fine scars on the top layer of the skin or under the epidermis. The stretch marks initially appear pink or red but gradually turn into thin silvery line.

Water
Water carries oxygen and nutrients to different body parts and organs as it circulates in the body. Drinking a lot of water results into a well-hydrated skin required to allow regular skin detoxification through the pores. Drinking a lot of water is hence the quickest remedy that should be used to heal stretch marks. It will keep the skin soft and maintain a well-hydrated body.


Aloe Vera
It is considered to be one of the most effective homeopathic remedies for various skin problems including stretch marks. With its soothing and healing properties, it directly heals stretch marks. Apply it directly to the skin and clean it with lukewarm water after a few minutes. 

Potato juice
The potato juice is very rich in vitamins and minerals hence promote restoration and growth of skin cells. Cut a thick slice of a medium-sized potato and rub it gently in the stretch marks for sometimes. Once it has dried up in the affected area of the skin, wash with lukewarm water. 


Sugar
Sugar is proven to be effective when used as a natural exfoliant tore the skin. It can thus be used as one of the best home remedies to heal stretch marks. Mix a teaspoon of sugar and mix with lemon juice and almond oil. Stir it well and directly apply the mixture on the affected areas in the skin. Take a shower after 10 minutes. It should be done regularly till the stretch marks fades. 
Other remedies that can be used for effective results include lemon juice, olive oil, cocoa butter and castor oil.
