The various types of dry skin remedies are mainly used to
hydrate the skin besides providing many other benefits. Dry skin is a common
skin condition that comes about due to lack of sufficient water in the
epidermis, the top most layer of the skin. The problem generally affects people
of all ages but is more prevalent with the elderly whose skins have lost most
of the natural oils and lubrication.
The common causes of dry skin include using of harsh soap to
wash the skin, overusing sanitizers on the skin, cold temperatures and low
humidity.
Below are some of the home dry skin remedies;
Baking soda
Baking soda is one of the very useful dry skin remedies
because its properties make it very ideal for stopping itching of the skin. To
use the remedy, you can sponge bath using 4 tablespoons of baking soda
dissolved in a liter of water or add one cup of baking soda to water in a
bathtub and soak in it for half an hour then air dry yourself.
Olive oil
Olive oil has many uses and is one of the most widely used
dry skin remedies in many moisturizers. The oil contains antioxidants that heal
inflamed or dry skin and can also repair wrinkles on the skin as well as
diminish sun spots. To use the remedy, soak cotton ball in the olive oil and
apply on the dry areas of the skin. Allow the oil to stay on the skin for a few
minutes then rinse off with warm water.
Honey
Honey is one of the most widely used dry skin remedies and
is known for its antibacterial properties. It is also sticky and can remove
dirt or grime and bacteria that fill the pores on the skin. It moisturizes and
greatly softens the skin if regularly used. One can apply the honey directly onto
the skin then massage gently so that it seeps into the pores of the skin. Let it
stay on the skin for about 3 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
Apple cider vinegar
Besides it application in almost all the home remedies,
apple cider vinegar still comes in as one of the dry skin remedies; this is
because the compounds in the vinegar such as malic acid is very essential in
revitalizing damaged skin. You can
simply use a cotton ball to apply a small amount of vinegar on the dry or itchy
part of the skin or add 3 cups of the vinegar to the bath water and soak in it
for about half an hour as one of the dry skin remedies.
