There are several dandruff remedies that one can use at home
to get rid of the problem. Dandruff is simply the shedding of the dead skin
cells from the scalp. There are many causes of dandruff such as sensitivity to
yeast, dry skin, dermatitis, certain illnesses and hyper reaction to certain
skin or hair products.
Some of the common home dandruff remedies include the
following;
Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and one of the popular
dandruff remedies. A few drops of the oil can be added to regular shampoo when
cleaning the hair, or 2 teaspoons added to a cupful of warm water can be used
to spray the scalp after shampooing.
Thyme
Four tablespoons of dried thyme can be boiled in two cups of
water then strained and let to cool before massaging on the scalp as one of the
dandruff remedies. Thyme contains both antifungal and antiseptic components
that help eradicate the dandruff.
Lime
A teaspoon of fresh lime can be added to the water while
rinsing the head as one of the dandruff remedies. The compounds found in lime
are antibacterial and can greatly help in getting rid of dandruff.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera juice or gel applied to the head a few minutes before
showering can be one of the most effective dandruff remedies; this is because
Aloe Vera has antifungal and antibacterial components.
Vinegar
White vinegar contains acetic acid which creates an
environment that’s not conducive for bacteria or fungus to live and multiply. One
measure of the white vinegar is mixed with triple the measure of water and used
to wash the head. Once washed, you can rinse the hair with normal water. This
treatment is one of the most effective in getting rid of dandruff that may have
been persistent before.
Listerine
Even though designed for cleaning the mouth, the compounds
in Listerine make it ideal for use as one of the home dandruff remedies. One
can use Listerine directly to wash the head then letting it stay on the head
for about 15 minutes, and finally rinsing off with normal water or simply mixing
2 measures of Listerine with 1 measure of water then spraying the solution on
the hair and leaving it on for about half an hour before rinsing off with clean
water.
Fenugreek treatment
Fenugreek is known for its antifungal properties that make
it one of the common dandruff remedies; to use fenugreek, simply soak the seeds
overnight in water to soften up then grind them the following day into a fine
paste. The paste is applied on the scalp and left for a few hours before
rinsing off with water. If used regularly, the technique can be among the most
effective dandruff remedies.
